GALÁPAGOS ISLANDS FREEDIVING EXPEDITION
Immersia X Kaiju Collaboration
THE GALÁPAGOS AWAITS
Journey into one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth
This legendary archipelago, often called a ‘Living Museum’, offers a rare chance to experience nature at its purest. It’s a vibrant world where life thrives in perfect harmony, untouched by time.
In a small group, we’ll explore the waters around San Cristóbal, Kicker Rock & Española Island, searching for Hammerhead Sharks, Sea Lions, Eagle Rays, Sea Turtles, sharks and dolphins. On land: Picture dramatic volcanic landscapes, giant tortoises, and a tight-knit local community that hits you the moment you arrive.
WHO IS KAIJU?
Kaiju is the expedition brand of Dana Bjaner, the co-host of our Galápagos Expeditions.
Dana is an Ecuadorian underwater photographer and ocean conservationist who has spent over a decade exploring these islands.
The philosophy behind Kaiju Expeditions is exactly why this collaboration felt inevitable. Inspired by the marine iguana — the Galápagos' ancient, otherworldly creature that moves between land and sea like it was born for both — Kaiju builds experiences around moving with wild places, not through them. Adaptation. Connection. Genuine respect for nature.
Sound familiar? It should. It's how we do things too.

EXPEDITION DETAILS
-
For us, freediving is about joy, play, discovery, and feeling 100% alive. We create experiences around bucket-list marine wildlife encounters; the kind of moments you’ll be proud of for the rest of your life.
We’re super selective when we choose our destinations, suppliers, and team. Every trip aligns strongly with our values.
We know our trips aren’t cheap. We’re not here for low-cost, barely-there freediving meetups, and we’re not ‘content creators’ looking for a free vacation. We’re professional and experienced facilitators here to make your trip unforgettable.
So, when you decide to book a trip with us, here’s what you can expect:
Small groups (8-16 people depending on the trip)
Dedicated 24-hour engagement from facilitators on retreat. You won’t be left to figure out your own dinner plans or solve issues alone.
Convenient and secure booking process. No random bank transfers here.
Regular communication and information about your trip.
Professionally qualified, experienced, and insured facilitators (no volunteers or trainees).
Licensed, legitimate operators chosen for their safety records and values.
A LOT of silliness and fun. Expect games, dancing, human pyramids, dirty jokes, and our signature Immersia Olympics…
Perhaps these things seem obvious. However, we can confidently say that right now we are running the safest and most legitimate freediving retreat operation in the world. How do we know? We research constantly AND listen to customers and staff members. We’re serious about being the best freediving operation on earth.

We’re looking for passionate ocean lovers on a mission to have extraordinary experiences with likeminded people.
This expedition requires a high level of ocean confidence and physical fitness;
- you MUST be confident with open-ocean snorkelling
- we strongly recommend taking a freediving course beforehand. It will help you get the most out of your trip!
- you’ll need good health, fitness and stamina for long, physical days
-
We’ve been doing this for a while. We know that it’s the PEOPLE, not the wildlife/weather/accommodation/etc. that will make this a lifechanging trip.
When we review applications we’re asking ourselves 3 questions:-
Is your ocean experience and skill a good match for this?
Do we share similar values around wildlife interaction amd group dynamics?
Do we fit with what you’re looking for?!
The application process is NOT about assessing your IG follower number or cool you are; it’s about us being super honest and ensuring that you’re going to get the most of of this adventure!
Trust us - this small extra effort on both sides means that you can turn up confident in the knowledge that you’ll be at the right level, with great people, who are all on the same page.
-
We want to make sure WE are a good fit for YOU!
It’s not about proving anything to us. We are reading your application with 3 things in mind:-
Your experience/skill in the water. For this expedition we need you to be confident in deep open ocean, and we recommend taking a freediving course beforehand!
Will this expedition meet your expectations and needs?
Do we have shared values around wildlife, nature and thr group dynamic? We love hosting guests who want to connect with others, who respect nature and are here for more than just ‘content’.
-
Our prices range from : $3800 - $4000 USD ($5300 - $5500 AUD) depending upon your selected room package.
Psst… If you’ve attended an Immersia Freediving Retreat in the past, you’ve unlocked a 5% discount. Email us if you haven’t received a code!

This expedition includes full days of physical activity in and out of the water. This type of expedition is for you if:
You're a strong swimmer and have plenty of experience swimming in the deep open ocean.
You have freediving experience. You’ll get the most out of this trip if you can confidently freedive 10-15m deep. However, this is not required. It’s still an epic experience even if you stay shallower! We strongly recommend taking a freediving course in advance
You’re medically fit to be in the water - we will require all participants to complete a medical history statement, and we may require clearance from a doctor.
A note for experienced freedivers - we will not be line-diving or doing any technical freediving as part of this adventure - it’s just recreational freediving!
-
Your stay will be at a charming, locally owned hotel that has recently undergone renovations, giving it a fresh and inviting feel. While it’s not a luxury property, it’s comfortable, authentic, and perfectly suited to the spirit of our expedition. Both the hotel and the boat company are run by the same local family, with whom Dana has been working with for over 10 years.
By staying here, we’re directly supporting local businesses and helping sustain the community that makes these expeditions possible.
-
We’ll be welcoming 7-9 guests on each week.
We like to keep our groups small and intimate for an amazing experience, as well as for your safety!
-

We won’t force animal interactions for photos.
We rise early, dive a lot, have a lot of fun, and go to bed pretty early. It's probably not the one if you want to party hard.
The majority of our guests are in the 25-45 age range, but we host all ages 18+, so please expect variety!
Our customer base is primarily Australian, but we love hosting guests from all over the world.
We’re LGBTQIA+ friendly.
We really, really, really value great group dynamics and we are grateful for respectful, tolerant, drama-free people!
The atmosphere is often playful and silly - dancing, games, human pyramids, sports, dirty jokes. If this isn’t your vibe, there may be a better fit for you…
We pride ourselves on being an inclusive, supportive, and super friendly place. Our guests are all treated equally. However, if you feel you may need additional levels of personal support, please contact us first for an honest discussion about how we can facilitate this.

EXPEDITION HOSTS
Hosts are not confirmed until closer to the trip, but here are some of the team members you may meet on expedition!
EWAN DONNACHIE
Expedition Guide | Award-winning Wildlife Cinematographer
Ewan is a lifelong ocean and nature lover who grew up on the coast of New South Wales, developing a deep and intimate relationship with the sea across many different chapters of his life - from competitive surfing to the world of professional filmmaking.
Today, he works as a wildlife cinematographer for BBC Natural History, Netflix and National Geographic, capturing rare animal behaviours in some of the planet's most extraordinary places. It was this work that first brought him to the Galapagos - spending ten weeks moving through the archipelago - island by island - while filming "Sea Lions of the Galapagos" for Disney+. That time left a lasting mark on him, and the Galapagos has held a special place in his heart ever since.
Now, Ewan is thrilled to bring the Immersia experience to one of the world's most iconic wildlife destinations. For him, this expedition is deeply personal - a chance to return to an archipelago he knows intimately, to share it with guests who love the natural world as much as he does, and to be back in the water with the sea lions he fell in love with. And with the legendary local hammerhead aggregations, there may even be a few personal firsts in store for him too.
DANA BJANER
Kaiju Founder, Underwater Photographer, Conservationist
Dana Bjaner is an underwater photographer, storyteller, and ocean conservationist from Ecuador. She’s spent over a decade exploring the Galápagos, forming a deep connection with the islands and their wildlife: a bond that continues to shape her work and the way she shares the ocean with others.
We first discovered Dana two years ago through her breathtaking Galápagos imagery on Instagram - as most great modern partnerships begin. Drawn together by shared values and a vision for meaningful exploration, we quickly began plotting a joint expedition. By May 2025, just six months later, we hosted our first Galápagos journey together with seven incredible guests. It was pure magic.
Since then, Dana has co-hosted four of our Mo’orea Whale Expeditions, capturing unforgettable moments and bringing her warmth, expertise, and infectious passion for nature to every trip. She’s become not just a creative partner, but a dear friend and one of Immersia’s strongest supporters.
With Dana, you’re learning from someone who has lived, breathed, and photographed these islands for decades — discovering the Galápagos through local eyes and experiencing the magic in ways few ever do.
