We facilitate extraordinary underwater experiences, from beginner freediving classes, to ocean expeditions in the most magical places on Earth. Above all, we’re here to make sure our guests and community have access to coaching, information, safety skills, friendships and lifechanging experiences in the ocean.

Immersia was founded in 2020 in a tiny North Bondi apartment. Our founder, Bella Massey, built the company from the ground up, driven by her belief that the ocean offers a pathway to a live lived fuller, happier, and with more wonder. Leaving behind a successful corporate consulting job, Bella found that freediving had opened up a whole new world for her.

Today our mission is to help our guests and students make the most of their time on earth buy giving them the skills and experiences to find pure awe in the ocean.

What Makes Us Different?

  • We don’t care about numbers. We aren’t here to develop elite, competitive freediving. We’re all about building safe and strong ocean skills so that our guests can life a thriving ocean lifestyle and unforgettable moments.

  • We know what it’s like to feel pretty sh*t scared in the ocean. We’ve been there, and we’ve come out the other side, with the coolest hobby in the whole world. We are specialists in getting beginners to be comfortable.

  • Our Community. You won’t find another freediving company in Australia that invests in the community like we do. We offer community events year round to connect and engage with local freedivers.

  • We have the most rigorous instructor and host standards of all. An professional instructor certification is the bare minimum we ask for. All of our instructors go through thorough onboarding and regular development and learning. We support and coach our new instructors until they are ‘Immersia Ready’. We insist upon stricter safety standards than even the most elite freediving agencies.

MEET OUR FOUNDER

BELLA MASSEY

For me, ocean adventure travel embodies the joy I’ve found in this world: feeling alive, connected, and high on awe.

In 2017 moved from London to Sydney’s Bondi Beach. I was living a corporate, urban existence as a management consultant. Moving to the beach opened up the perfect opportunity to take up a new water sport. I chose freediving (tbh it was advanced snorkelling).

I was TERRIFIED of deep water, currents and sharks. Freediving didn’t come naturally. However, as I grew more confident I found a deep sense of physical freedom. Freediving felt like dancing without gravity. Silently observing the underwater world as a visitor felt so calming. I made some of my closest friends (and my husband) in Sydney’s freediving community. Freediving opened up travel opportunities. Before long I was exploring the underwater magic of Bali, Philippines, Hawaii and Tonga. Meeting whales and sharks peacefully underwater gave me a sense of being truly alive.

I constantly felt a sense of disappoinment that I’d gone so many years without knowing this side of life. I could help regular people discover the ocean and transform their physical, mental and social health. So, in 2020, I took the biggest leap of faith of my life and walked away from my career to start Immersia Freediving.

4 years on, we have grown faster than I ever imagined. We’ve been lucky enough to teach over 1000 people to freedive and we have now hosted snorkelling, swimming and freediving expeditions in some of the world’s most beautiful places.
