1

Ocean Confident

Anyone comfortable in open water

Our gentlest level. Calm, protected water, very little current, and a pace that leaves plenty of room for floating about and grinning. You'll need to swim 200m comfortably, but the days are short sessions with lots of rest — one easy site at a time. If you're happy in open water, you're ready.

Right now none of our expeditions sit at this level — but our beginner freediving courses do, and they're the perfect place to find your fins before stepping up to Level 2.

Ocean Explorer

Solid ocean swimmers with lots of experience

Things get a bit more real here. Steady pace, long days, multiple sessions, proper ocean — surge, mild current, some swell, and conditions that can change through the day. You're swimming 200m+ without drama and you're comfortable spending full days in the water.

One thing to know: the level measures how physically demanding the trip is, not what certification is required — some Level 2 trips still ask for a freediving certification. Each expedition page spells out exactly what you'll need.

Physical demand
Swim 200m+ continuously. Comfortable spending full days in the water.
Ocean conditions
Surge, mild current, some swell. Conditions can change through the day.
What a day looks like

Ocean Native

Fit, strong and ocean-hardened enthusiasts

Full on, in the best way. Repeated long surface swims (200m+), climbing in and out of the boat, back-to-back big days — and conditions that can include strong current, big swell, cold water or low visibility. Genuine fitness required. You earn every encounter at this level, and that's exactly the point.

Worth knowing: one of our most 'beginner-friendly' trips lives here. Mo'orea asks for nothing more than confident snorkelling — it just asks for it over and over again.
